crockbuyer, you may want to ask that question in the BIG BOLT section but hang tight, a moderator may move it there for you?

Good catch on the 3800. I've been looking at a "bigger truck" myself. Anyone that answers could you please mention the price as well.

Good luck crockbuyer.

I believe if you switch to radials, you'll need to change wheels also. You probably have three piece wheels on the truck right now. If you do upgrade, I'd be interested in your old wheels.

I run 7.50x17 tires on my '48 3800. The radial 8.00x17 tires are 3" shorter which means your hiway RPM's will be higher and less top end speed. You mentioned 7.00x18 which were used on the dual rear wheel trucks with the "Bud" style wheels. Is that what you have?

Did you buy the 3800 out of Iowa advertised as a 3 ton? If so it a nice truck.

I bought some 19.5" wheels from Rickson and 8R19.5 Goodyears. It's overkill for my 3/4 Ton, but I like them, and they fit (barely). If you go this route, be prepared to spend some serious money.

It is lots of fun trying find 7.00X 18 tires for my '54 1 ton with duals. It still has the original '54 tires, and although not worn, are now pretty cracked.
I am going to do a body off restoration of my old truck, but need a rolling chassis so it can be moved around inside the barn, so I thought I might start with the wheels, and tires.
I have done the front hubs, brakes, one at a time.
The rear duals have not been off for a very long time, and I notice some rim bubbling of rust near the rivets. The lock rings seem OK, but I have never done a de-mounting of this type of tire and wheel before. I may defer that job to a guy who does that for a living since I have been told it is tricky.
I am not planning a fancy restoration, but a plain, and solid one, exactly like you would find this truck in about 1960.
Since it has the factory stake racks, I am copying them exactly, because the proportions are very handsome, and they work perfectly as a typical farm truck of the era.
By the way, has anyone found a cheap way to ship heavy truck parts such as wheels, across the States? Is anyone coming up to Canada with a truck, or trailer, with some spare room?
Cheers Warren
