I have a 64 c10 and want to identify for sure the engine size currently in the truck.

An old hot rod builder said it did not come with a 230 straight 6 and the guy I bought it from says that is what it is.

The numbers that are CAST into the block are 3994257 with a large GM under that and a 65 under that

The numbers stamped into a plate just behind the distributer are, as best as I can make them out 1101C3J and some numbers under that and I can't make those out.

So any idea what motor this is?

On the body is 4C144S189609 but that number means nothing since I do not know if this motor is original to the truck.

Thanks as always,

Scott

On the Pad near the Distributor, the last 3 should be all Letters. It looks like the engine is a 1970 or newer as that is when GM went to 3 Letters instead of 2. The first Letter of the 3 "C" tells us that it is an engine from a Car.

Like Jon has mentioned, it looks like it is a 250.

250, originally passenger car (at least Chevelle/El Camino, possibly Camaro or Nova as well) with the Powerglide. It's at least a '72, that's the only year that code is listed in my book, which stops at '72.

Okay then.

Thanks very much for the help.

Sure glad I found this site.

I live in a small town and it is very hard to find information on anything around this town.

Appreciate the help...

By the way, the "1101" is November 1st.

The number under it that you have listed is the car's VIN Number.
