Evidently the backing plates are identical, it's a perfect fit. But that is with a 10 bolt; I don't know about a 12 bolt.

Got my parts order for a front disc conversion, tapered roller bearings, new tie-rod ends, etc.
Replaced a really-wrong rear bumper bracket (singular) with a correct pair, and did a proper set of electrical connections for the tail & brake lights.
Fixed a fuel leak at the carb.
Going to a Show and Shine tomorrow, so I've also spent a bunch of time detailing and waxing her. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Mike, all that hard work over the winter is paying off. You've come a long way! Good job.

It was either that or take the pinion yolk off or... trailer the whole truck there,I decided this was the lesser of two evils. I never thought getting a driveshaft made for my truck would be such a PITA! Got the brackets made for the fog lights.
Got the pattern made for the glovebox mount of the radio.
Got the kick panels trimmed to clear the A/C.
Determined I'm ready to hand the rest of the interior over to a pro and get this thing finished for cryin' out loud.

I coated the whole area with rust converter as well. There were a few pin holes I welded shut and ground down. since I had the welder out I welded up the filler neck hole in the side of the cab and applied a thin layer of body filler over top. All in all it was a good day.

Problem is I gave them the original driveshaft fom an 81 vette which donated the engine and trans. In the end they made a complete new shaft rather than use the 'vette ends, but copied the 'vette sizes.(My fault!) The front fits no problem. There's now a mis-match on the rear end,so i'll need a conversion UJ. I'm heading out there this morning,so i'll find out what's involved.... Hopefully it won't involve too much cash! What I don't understand is how the Pontiac yolk stops the bearing caps from 'walking' sideways. There's no retaining circlips or lugs cast into the yolk. I have heard of UJs with internal c-clips....

I removed the spear from the fender and got some chrome polish from Wally-World. WOW! I love old cast heavy metal with "for real" chrome plating. All I need to do is repaint the background colors to make it look virtually new! I hope to get the right fender off today and then the radiator support and inner fenders. I'm stoked about being in the body part of this project and can't wait to get to the cab! I just wish it weren't triple digits temperature! That got me pumped enough to tackle the texas heat a little longer and cut out the upper cowl vent and start fitting a patch panel for there as well.

It's been making me sick that I haven't been able to turn a wrench on it in a while. I have to work in this dang heat and the last thing I need is to hang out in it after a hot day. Fans and cold water help.

I'd sure be willin' to work in a rain shower! I pulled the remaining front clip components. Basically, all I have left on the front is the bumper... and I need a bigger shed! I'm really pleased with the condition of all these components. There's plenty of work to do in getting everything cleaned and painted but I plan on working my way to bare frame. I don't know how much work the cab will be, but I'm ready to get at it! Removed the hub and discovered that one of the brake shoe keeper pins, that hold the shoe assembly against the backing plate had disingaged from the clip. The edge of the shoe was rubbing against the inside of the drum. The pin was no where to be found yet the clip was lodged up under one of shoes. Luckily I had a couple extra pins in my Moostang parts bin.
This is just a sign that I better start working on the truck a little more often.

Learned the good the bad and the ugly about an undercoat...good in the sense how little rust, bad in the sense of getting a wrench on the bolt heads. Lastly removed about 10 lbs of grease, stuff, seasoning with much more to come!!

Next up is mounting the power window switches/cranks permanently to the doors and then making the power door lock mechanisms using the stock locks. I'm told it can't work. No better way to get me motivated.
