My question is. Original chrome pieces that are not readily available in the aftermarket. Can you remove the chrome and fix/weld dents?

If so, how do you remove the chrome in the area to work on and will a chrome shop remove the rest of the old before re-chroming.

Thanks

no, original anything isn't available aftermarket wink it's always less expensive to chrome a painted or bare piece than one with old chrome on it, all rechroming requires total removal of any previous coating, whether chrome or paint .... depending on your skills and what the damage is you might want to just check the cost of getting the shop to do the repairs as part of the rechroming, they commonly do that

They will strip it, fix the metal imperfections, and re-chrome it.

If you know what you're doing you can save a lot of labor cost by doing any stripping and repairs yourself. If you don't know what you're doing you can run the tab up. As noted above the chrome shop can repair most items.

What items in particular are we talking about?

I don't think you would be welding to fix a dent, but instead pound or press the dent out. Many chrome shops will also repair dents for you.

The bumpers I had chromed went out with deep scratches and low spots due to welding up holes. I didn't expect them to come back flawless, but they did.

Most of the chrome on the front has at least one dent or bend in it. Grill etc.

What year is the Burb? Oh I see now, '55, nice year.
How much did you pay to have those done?

It helps to have an idea before taking stuff to be done.

Thanks, they look great.

The Burb which the NAPCO running gear, winch, and front bumpers came off was a 58. I bolted that up to the 55 Chevy. Drill 6 holes and bolt up.

The bumpers were expensive in my opinion at $500 for both. They needed to be custom fit around the winch and the bolt holes needed to be relocated so no finding these in a reproduction magazine. What a perfect job they did though. You should have no problem finding a great chroming shop in Vegas or Cali.
