doggone ive got myself in a deeper mess here. when follwing shop manual advice i unbolted bolts and moved shifter box up to get right clearance. i thought the two bolts above the shifter box needed to come out. now thast clamp has grooves in the upper and lower shafts that the bolts has to go back inside to fit right. anyway the lower shaft has been turned to try an aline the bolts. so now i have a real big mess. still can not get car into any gear and shifter inside still gos all the way to the left and will not come down past netural position. i believe the bottom of the shafts are splined and will only let you turn them so far to line things back up. yikes help ive really got my self into a pickel here. any help will be appreciated and all of past help a few days ago was appricated thanks ted

Ive been there when my truck was 3 sp. on the column. If you were here,,i could fix it.
Tryin to explain it.......thats a different story.
Dont start adjusting the rods. The prob. is in the little "box" on the column under the hood.
Unscrew the cover(4 lil screws)and youll see 2 pieces of metal with a notch cut out of them.
one is for 1st and reverse,,the other is for 2nd and 3rd.
if you have someone in the truck slowly move your shifter lever up and down,,youll see the piece that belongs in that "notch".Those 2 aforementioned pieces are kinda spring loaded,so if you move one of them up or down youll be able to get that piece back where it belongs.
Provided you havent moved anything else around,,,it should work. Now that youre totally confused,,if you can send me a picture of what you have,,i might be able to help you more.

It is simple, Put the transmission in neutral, make sure the gear lever inside is at 3o'clock. Adjust the levers on the linkage until they are level. Problem solved. Been there, done that!
