It's definately been some miles in its time and I'm still using it. My dad also had a 51 Chevy 1/2 ton 3 on the tree,and he also had it rigged for propane when he farmed. I bought my 51 short bed from the original owner in 1975 to actually haul my old dirt bike back and forth to the canyon during my dirt biking & enduro days. I later went into the Navy a couple of yrs later and made a career. During my military time, I drove my 51 from West TX to San Diego and back to TX and my brother overhauled the 235 6 cyl. I then drove it back to San Diego and used it for transportation, then drove it up to Whidbey Island, Wa. in the snow and drove it all over the place. Ah ha ha, I took a few detours on my way to Wa. State to the Red Wood Forest and along the Coast and even through San Francisco. It needed a paint job then too. People in San Francisco probably thought the Beverly Hillbillies were coming through they way my old pickup looked. But hey, it just had more class tooling down the highway. I was enjoying the ride. I put that pickup on the ferry and went all over Wa. and up into Canada. Ended up going over seas for a few yrs so had to put my pickup in storage. Retired from the Navy and moved to the Dallas area then went back to Wa. and trailored it back to Dallas area. Just haven't been able to part with it. So now Im actually working on it and restoring it. I know someone might say, "Why did you paint the engine Chevrolet Orange"? I just didn't have the right paint and I fig I could paint it what ever color I wanted to. This is site is a great tool for an abundance of information and other Stove Bolters who enjoy the automobile history. I saw another post from someone who stated, "If only these old cars and trucks could talk!"
You can just look at one of the old vehicles that have been restored or even still sits in a salvage yard and just wonder about the miles these old vehicles have traveled, the people who have been in them, the things that have taken place in them, the farming, business work, travel, play, relocating families, the hard times, there is a lot of history for those of us who care to think of such. It's still fun too.
