i am connecting up my shifter rods to the column mounted box on my 56 3100 with the 3-speed.

i bought new bushings (metal cylinders inside rubber grommet) and they will not fit on the shifter rods. That is: they are too small in diameter for the end of the rods to fit into. I remember a discussion on this subject (i think), but couldn't find in a search.

Does anyone know of a source of bushings that fit, or some other work-around?

thanks

I had the same problem. Good or bad, I removed the metal sleeve using only the rubber grommet over the shift arm. Probably wear out sooner, but works fine.

we just had this discussion not long ago - the rubber won't last long at all, even if it's a hard rubber

thanks Bill - i remember that thread, and wanted to find it (I hadn't encountered my bushing problem yet). It wouldn't come up in a search now that i see it because "bushings" is spelled wrong...

Classic or LMC has the correct rubber ones. I was told the ones with the metal were for a car (don't know) I believe that Classic has the correct ones in rubber. By the time they came , I had a local machine shop (car guy) make them out of brass. If you do, have them put mushroom top on them like the rubber ones. It make assembly easier. The rubber one were the same dimentions as we had miced them. He used 5/8" brass pieces he had and turned them down and then drilled them. Works great
