| | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 367 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 367 | Went back to the x fan (stock) and had the waterpump out . saw no defects so put it back. it has a thermo, so the washer probably wouldnt get me any thing. i have tried the gutted thermo also but still is hot. gona try to find the size (dia) of the stock w/p pulley . maybe its running slow. engine new ? i have had this truck for 10 years. but found a tag once that it was rebuilt by a marine eng co in michigan. bored it .40 over. but the tag looked like it has been there awile. i think rad shroud will be next project. has anyone fabed up one or just but it? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | the plastic shrouds from all the vendors work fine and will fix your "problem", but a stock 59 with a 235 won't need one if the fan is factory distance from the rad

Also, my fan is the old stock X fan, but it is about 3/4 to 1 inch away from the radiator.
If you can't find a spacer that thin, might make some spacers to go between the radiator support and the front end of the truck to get the radiator closer to the fan.
Fan shroud would help too if you can find one. But my truck doesn't have one. Runs 190 or so all the time.

I've seen those flex fans loose tension and become useless at any rpm over idle or they just flatten out to soon. You could even find a 6 blade fan blade and really pull some air. I measured the distance of the closest part of the fan to rad and it is about 3/4 in.Part of the problem witha spacer is that the rad sits at a angle to the engine. almost a 1/2 in closer on the drivers side. The motor is square with the crossmember . It may have taken a wack sometime in its life. Think I will try a shim on the pass side of rad. that will bring the fan tips to about 3/4 in . I am missing a few of the parts there but basicly looks like that. I went in the shop and found a piece of 1x3/8 aluminum bar , cut it to length and drilled it , put that on the pass side of rad mount. That brings the fan and rad parallel.about 3/4 in from closest point of fan to rad. ran for 10 min at idle and sits at 195 on guage. its 95 here in shade and its a black truck hood closed. ..... Watchin the stock fan turn it looks like it is wobbeling ?? or maybe its the design. it layed flat on table. | | |
