I want to lower my 56 3100, say 3 inches in front 5 in back. I dont want to go all out with an IFS in front there are a few vendors who sell a new axle for the front that lowers it 3 inches. I want to keep the original rear end in this truck. Is there a way to lower the rear (via blocks) or would I have to upgrade to a more modern rear end with different leaf springs?

Lowering blocks work on rears that have the springs UNDER the axle but if I'm not mistaken on your '56 the springs are on top. Take a look at your axle to frame clearance - maybe you could move the spring perches to the bottom of the axle (any good welding shop could do this for you if you don't have a welder). This in itself will drop your truck to about where you want it.

You might have to "C-Notch the frame rail if you put the springs under the rear end but it wikk get it down to the desired height you want.
