For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 99 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 99 | My '56 model 150 gmc pickup has a good horn and probably a bad horn relay, so I will get another- problem is I need to get the truck inspected by Wednesday- would there be any problem with temporarily wiring a horn button with # 12 wire from bat thru push button switch to horn?

A twelve volt horn should not take as much current. Now, on the other hand I don't know if your horn contact set is as substantial as the one in the AD truck | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 866 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 866 | I found a nice original horn, can I use it with my 12 volt system without any mods! Thanks Coach Frank | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 | coach: you shouldn't have any problems at all running it on 12 volts, lotsa guys have done the same thing for years without any issues as long as the horn is used sparingly. Now if you're part of a wedding party and laying on the horn as you drive through town, that 6V horn isn't going to be happy! | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 866 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 866 | Thanks waldo, I thought that was the case! | | |
