Right now I am running 225/70r15 tires on the front. The tires are worn and I need to replace them. Is there any advantage to changing to another size tire? Can the width or the height of the tire make manual steering better or worse? If so, what do you recommend?

Especially on a non power steering set-up.
A 225 width tyre is not a huge width for a truck. A 70 series profile on a 225 gives you more than a 6" sidewall which is still pretty tall.
A few years back I had an old GM Vauxhall Cresta.
The P.O. had put those awful white 8 spokes that look more at home on a Baja Bug and the offset was all wrong.
I changed the wheels to a wheel better suited to the car(same width as the 8 spokes but different offset) and it was like magic,no hauling at the steering wheel to turn!
