Hi /i am new here, but just have a question on a truck i found.

We just bought 34 acres of property with 10 acres of bush, in the bush theres a old GMC truck. From the style code i believe it is a 1959 stepside shortbox, but its in rough shape.

My question is is it worth trying to pull it out of the bush and trying to restore it, or is it too far gone should remain in there as its final resting spot.

here are some pics

Guessing it should look like this

Put some fresh gas in it and see if it'll run.
Then go from there. Should be an easy restoration.

I think Mother Nature has the jump on you restoring that one- back into the 6th and 26th elements.

IRWIPI???

I suppose there are guys out there who would take on a project like that, but as for me, I'd probably pass on it. (Probably?? I KNOW I would!!) But there might be a few miscellaneous parts there that you could salvage-either for yourself, or for resale.

Looks good to me. Dash panel appears to be in good shape, probably lots of other good parts to salvage.

It depends on how much your time is worth. For this project, it had better be free. You'll probably be buying another truck to replace all of the parts that are too far gone...except for the front bumper and passenger door handle. (Those might be salvagable- hard to tell.)

If it were me, I'd look for a white cross with R.I.P. written on it. Mark its final resting place with class.

Thats pretty much what I figured but had to ask, hate the thought that someone left it out there to rot like that, wanted to see if anything could be done.

I may see what I can salvage from it

Thanks

The only thing worth salvaging is the title if its possible.

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks.
Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.

Those emblems although rough are worth salvaging. The guages might be good for parts too. Don't overlook the 3 speed shifter knob as those can be difficult to find.

My opinion the truck isn't worth restoring, but there are still plenty of good parts.

R.I.P. IMHO. But there may be some salvage parts as mentioned above. Consider it "Yard Art".

If it has been an ontario truck all its life probably only half of it is left now. It would have to be for sentimental reasons that a restoration would happen to it.Pull it out take stock of it and if you decide to part it out start haggling with other truck guys.

First time I saw this truck I said "That's the one!"

I've seen vehicles come out of a crusher in better shape than that.

You might be able to salvage a handful of odds and ends but beyond that it pretty much is ready to sell for scrap metal.

R.I.P.
Take the V.I.N. and claim the title so you can find one and with no title for cheap and use the vin off of your free truck to register it easy.

I wouldn't try a resto unless it had some sentimental value to you. But, there are parts that may be worth using, especially under the dash of a GMC (heater and controls, wipers, maybe electric wipers, defrost ducts).

I really must have been a long drop from that 150 ft cliff.
I hope no one was in it.

It may not have been too bad before someone decided to crush the roof. Or maybe that's why it was put there to begin with...??
Is there an engine in it? I agree with most others, some salvageable parts is all...

You might be able to make a shed out of it.
