Just got my truck (64) on the road (after 12 years), and went to put on my front plate, and noticed that there is no bracket for the plate. Are you supposed to just bolt it directly to the bumper, or is there a bracket for these? I ended up bolting it to the bumper, but it sits at an angle.......seems it would look better with a bracket?? What did every one else end up doing?

Most people just bolt the plate directly to the bumper using the factory holes. I thought the factory holes positioned the plate too high on the bumper, and also made it vulnerable to being bent. So I fabricated a simple steel ¼” thick plate that bolts to the original holes, and drilled two more holes lower down directly through the bumper to attach the license. These photos show the stock location, the bare plate, and with the license plate installed. To me it looks much more balanced and the mounting plate provides great reinforcement for the license.

I agree that the factory location looks strange. Sticking up above the bumper it draws attention away from the truck and to the license plate.

Since I have a painted bumper I redrilled 4 holes and dropped the plate. I roll formed the bototm of then plate to fit the bumper contour also.

Here is a photo for ya: http://inlinethumb12.webshots.com/48843/2699671700103882008S600x600Q85.jpg

Some good ideas from you guys. I guess from what I am hearing, that the 60-66 trucks did not come with a bracket then? I wasn't sure if mine had been removed, or if there just never was one. Maybe it's time to fab one up........
