I just purchased 2 suburbans. A 1951 and a 50. The 51 is complete. Less rear seats of course. The 50 has no front clip. They are pretty rusty but of the two I am confident I can get one together. Decoding the VIN I see nothing that denotes this as a suburban, carryall, or even panel. The titles here use the VIN. Does anyones title say it is a suburban, carryall or panel? The way I see it the VIN just says it is a truck with 116"wb 1/2ton.

I do not belive they differentiated trucks, panels and Suburbans back then most of the parts were the same and the build number told you what parts were used where.

In the case of my 46 Suburban I had a vin number but no title.

For $140.00 I got a title from Nevada with no problems which I in turn converted to a Florida title. All I had to do was send them a bill of sale and $140.00.

I have a 49 Burb from texas and found a title at swap meet that had a vin number but model read "1949 Chevrolet Suburban Carryall" When I explained that it was a 1949 but the motor was not in the truck when I purchased it ( true statement), that I was restoring the truck, etc. the lady went to the back, discussed with manager, and then granted new title in my name. Gotta love small county seat government. But now for some reason State of Texas will not let you use an antique license plate that says Farm truck on the plate. Go Figure.

My 1948 Suburban Colorado title has the abbreviation "UP" under the "BODY" section of the title. UP stands for utility passenger in Colorado Motor Vehicle parlance. The State of Colorado uses the VIN# on the title which is real handy after a motor swap. It sure seems like each state has its own unique dance to go through. Good luck!
