I coulda been one of those guys in my youth...a real knucklehead. Live in Orange County which was once somewhat rural/urban. Lots of groves, farms dairies and horses here when I was a child. We also lived for a time in Ohio. I now own a property on the central coast right above Santa Maria. It's all farm land from north of Santa Barbara on up. I wanted some acreage but all I could afford was one little acre. Well, there's a strawberry field behind me. Does that count? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 843 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 843 | "I wanted some acreage but all I could afford was one little acre. It sure does. Enjoy it while it's a berry patch. I'm a geologist and I've done the soils investigations on plenty of berry patches and cabbage fields that are housing tracts now. Remember "OCIR" Orange County International Raceway?

Stove Oil and diesel work wonders if I can get the heads off. So far I have been able to save all I've worked with. In some cases I had to use sleeves in the cylinders but with the new sleeve designs that too isn't an issue until an engine is intended to turn very high RPM's. My small block round track engines live very happily at 7,000+ RPM, with anywhere from one to all 8 cylinders sleeved. I leave a small step at the bottom of the cylinder for the sleeve to bottom against, and the cylinder head holds it down at the top. RPM isn't a factor if the sleeve can't move. I also bore the block to a .002" interference fit and drive the sleeves in. I've recycled a lot of my competitors' "junk" blocks by sleeving them back to standard bore after they were discarded as "worn out". Nothing gives me more satisfaction than outrunning somebody with his own castoffs! Jerry
