I have a 283 with a TH350. Now that it is finally getting warmer and spring-like I can tackle this project. I want to pull the engine and tramsmission out at this time. Correct me if I am wrong but the engine and transmission come out together, right? What is required to take the trans off, them the flexplate? Thanks for answering my rookie questions. | | |

Unbolt the bellhousing & torque convertor, engine mounts, exhaust, wiring & lines, hoses. Support the trans w/a jack, pull engine. The flexplate has 6 bolts holding it to the crankshaft. | | |

Take off the lower cover & remove the 3 bolts holding the converter to the flexplate. Remove the drive shaft, The rear crossmember. Put a jack under the back part of the oil pan with a block of wood under the pan. pemove the linkage, cooler lines, & kickdown cable. Put the trans jack under the trans. Remove 6 bolts holding the trans. to engine, pull the trans. back a little & lower it down.

I usually don't pull engine and tranny together unless there is a good reason. I've pulled other engine and tranny combinations, but not with an automatic. If your truck is lowered forget it. My truck sits on big 16 tires and my combo is shorter than yours with the auto. I also had a load leveler which allowed me to change the angle as I pulled the engine to clear radiator support. If you haven't got the load leveler I wouldn't try it!!

Grandpa and I are also replacing the rear main seal becase it leaks after you run it. Thanks for that help and I will be tacking this the last week in March because that is Spring Break from school.
