For those with 1940 trucks, or 39/41-46 for that matter, what did you use for a gas tank if you've relocated it under the bed? I wanna get mine out of the cab and under the bed. I've looked at the universal kits from chevsofthe40s and was also considering having one custom made, but I wanted to know if anyone has found anything cheaper that works.

I thought I heard somewhere that 1st gen camaro/firebird tanks work nicely. The filler neck looks like it would have to come out the back, but it looks like it would have to be mounted kinda low to make the filler neck come out between the bed and bumper. I'd like the filler neck to come straight up through the bed.

Any ideas?

Hello, my truck is a 1937 project truck that someone had started but could not finish. The previous owner had a Rock Valley custon aluminum tank made and installed it under the bed just behind the rear axle with the filler on top with access through the wood bed. This is a nice set up. However, it did'nt leave enough room for the exhaust. So my exhaust exits in fron of the rear tires. So, keep this in mind with a tank under the bed.

I'm looking at these two from chevs of the 40s.

They're universal fit, so I don't know how well they fit under a 40. The second one does look a lot nicer.

leave it where it is. there no work involved, no money involved.
the only way i would put a tank under the bed would be to supplement the tank under the seat for more miles between fill ups on long trips.
