I've read quite a bit of great information on here about the T-5 conversion for 235 engines. I've yet to see anything on the 10" flywheel/clutch that is on my engine. I've seen the 10 3/4, and a 9 7/8 disc mentioned which I would be interested in it was right thickness and offset,to fit my application. Now do I have to change the flywheel to do the T-5 conversion. I've checked into having a disc made and the price wasn't bad but I want to check all options before I decide something. Does anyone know the particulars on the 9 7/8 disc. The engine is a 1962 235 that was put in by the previous owner, transmission is a 14 spline 1" shaft. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

The 9 7/8 will work fine with a 10 in. pressure plate.

Evidently the NAPA 9 7/8 clutch disc 4201 is now discontinued (figures just when I need it) and has been replaced with a 9 11/16. I'm sure that will fit the clutch but I don't know if it will fit my needs. I'm going today to cjeck on having one made. The is a kit I found out and if I get any information on it I will pass it on.

No need to have a custom clutch disc fabricated. I'm currently using a NAPA clutch disc from an 83-84 Firebird 2.8L in my 1954 with the 10" flywheel, in addition to having run the 4201 formerly offered by NAPA using the same pressure plate.

It might be a good idea to check out my webshots albums that outlines some of the things I learned about making the T5 conversion. There are a couple little tricks that make a big difference about getting it right the first time, or spending a bunch of time tearing out your hair!!!

Is the one your running the 9 11/16 or the 9 1/8. I am looking at the amount of disc area I would be loosing with the 9 1/8.

If I remember correctly the 83-84 Firebird 2.8L disc was 9-7/8". I was a bit concerned about the pressure plate diameter and interference with the disc but even though it was close......it's been working for a couple years on a daily basis with no problems.

BTW....the stock Chevy long T.O. bearing and diaphram pressure plate work fine with both the S10 4/6 cylinder T5 transmissions as well as the T5 "z" from behind the 305 V8. Both clutches are controlled with mechanical linkage. Pics in Webshots of truck and hot rod linkage setup.

I got the clutch. If you are needing any clutch related parts contact Fort Wayne Clutch. Very resonably priced and helpful. Now everything is set up and I can't get the trans in. I have done all the modifications that are called for and everything looks good. I test fit with no problem. But when everything is in and lined up it won't go the last 1/2". Any ideas out there?

I'm going through the same T-5 install and checking to see which clutch you purchased from Fort Wayne Clutch. I found the same issue that you did with NAPA, they have a 9 1/8 for the '84 Firebird but I am wondering if that is too small?

It's the remaned rcf-4201 clutch disc, 9 11/16 disc also from 83-84 Firebird 2.8. From what I have found the 9 1/8 would work but will slip under moderate acceleration. You lose too much clutch surface area. If you have a flat pressure plate, that is the springs the throw out bearing rides against,I would also recommend getting a peaked one from them. The flat is the old design and has tendency to prevent shifting at higher speeds. Just be sure it's for your flywheel and not the Firebird.
