hiya, just put in Patricks rear diff kit into my 1953 3100, Ive three speed and 235ci engine.

everything seams ok apart from the u joint bell housing didn't line up it looked around 1/4 " out, put with a gentle mallet it went in ok. (didnt force it.) but Ive a knocking sound from the joint?

its like the rear axil is out of line, Ive re done the complete rear end with new bushes, spring hangers and had the complete axil off the truck, Ive also measured the gearbox and its dead center on the chassis rails?

is there anything i can do?

the old u.joint and holder was badly damaged, from the point that it too had all the corners knocked off? sound like the new one will do the same? ive take the u joint to pieces again and its catching on the edge ?

how do i set the drive line up? im really stuck...its 11.48pm and ive just given up for the day!...

with the wheels of the truck and on axil stands its alot quieter? this knock is also not there all the time...say every 30 seconds, on axil stands.

when on test drive its when i go around right hand corner slowly, or floor it in high gear, when going slow like a whipping action , flipping the throttle, it does it then....

any input or links. thanks

You said you had the axle out of the truck?
Did you install it so the pinion angle is correct?

You also said the ball housing that goes around the ujoint is hitting the ujoint?
Is that right? Is this an enclosed driveline?

I had something simular, I put the u-joint bolt head keepers on backwards, you have to turn the keepers into the inside so they aren't on the outside where they rub up against the ball. The u-joint turns inside the ball and unless you use ALL the gaskets they give you, then there is very little clearance for the u-joint to turn in the ball and not rub. The keepers are tricky and you have to hold your tounge just right but put them so they hold the bolts inside the ball not on the outside edge and then bend over the keepers and it will clear if you use the gaskets and build up some clearance.
