Is there a source for a 6 Volt Wiper Motor 54 Chevy Truck that is actually 6 Volt ? I purchased one a while back and when I received it was a 12 Volt motor with a note saying that it may run slower from a 6 Volt source... I hooked it up to my 6 Volt battery to see how fast the motor would run and it looked slow to me, so I hooked it up to a 12 volt battery and there was a big difference in the speed...

I also talked to the vendor where I purchased the motor and although they advertise two motors 6 & 12 volt the sales person said they carry only the 12 volt motor and most other vendors so the same... They are wiling to take it back...

Seeing that I plan on staying with my 6 volt system does any one know of a true 6 volt Wiper motor source ?

the vendors prolly sell way more 12V, so don't bother stocking the 6V - send it back and go direct to the source, Newport Engineering

Three original 1954 6v truck motors have sold on eBay in the last month (I have not seen a correct one on eBay before that).

I do not have to note that an original used motor would be 57 years old.

It seems that many of those used motors have a faulty/flakey switch on the motor body.

The modern after-market 1954/55 wiper motors (which are not reproduction wiper motors) will not work with the original radio/speaker in place. If this is important to you, check this with Newport Engineering. If they have a real 6v unit that works with the original radio, please let us know (or, maybe that is why they sell 6v to 12v inverters).

I had the 12v-wiper-for-6v-truck problem when buying an after-market 1954 wiper motor 10 years ago (they also told me it would work fine with an original radio/speaker - it did not).

I notice from Newport's web site that the 6v motor for 37-38 won't fit with the stock radio box. That is odd since the radio box is a LONG way from the wiper motor.

I believe that for AD trucks Newport only carries 12 volt motors... I emailed them a while back... The 6v to 12v inverters are $ 149.95 !!!

I saw one on Ebay over a year ago but it turned out to be for a car... Even it it would work it most likely need to be rebuilt...

Thanks Tiny ... I will keep that in mind as an option...

I did find a Wiper Motor-Electric Conversion-6volt 54 from Classic Parts of America... I called them to verify that it was a 6 volt motor and it is..

healingbear,

Will you be using an original (or original-style) radio? The speaker might interfere with the wiper motor. If you are using a radio with no speaker on top, there will be no problem.

Tim

I emailed Classic Parts of America and asked if it would be any interference with the radio but will not here from them until Monday or so...

I have the original radio ... It may need repairing so it will not be going in the truck for some time... It looks like it might not be an issue when installed... Vertical speaker style...
