I did that to my 52-3100 all the pins were rusted in , just be carefull when you drill out the hinges I set them up on a drill press with a vise also go slow with plenty of cutting oil, if you drill them off center the door will not line up right.

If your pins are rusted really badly you can take a narrow cut-off wheel and cut thru the pins between the two parts to get them separated. The pins are usually easier to get out that way. I can't locate it now but somewhere there is a video posted showing how to do that.

Some great tips, thanks.

Is there a write up on reinstalling the doors (alignment) once the hinges are rebuilt?

Joe is right. There is a nice write up on hinge pin repair. I found if you read it about 3 times before you start it will help you. Wait until you get your new pins before you "drill" very much. I ended up NOT having to drill the holes on one truck but the pins on another one I did were a little larger and I ended up using a "R" bit....or maybe it was an "S" bit to get just exactly the right size.
Don't forget to put in the little door check "horseshoes". Now those can be a challenge if you let it!!

Good luck. Let us know how you do.

"door check horseshoes"?
been looking thru catalogs and haven't seen anything refered to as a horseshoe. Does this part go by a different name?

Sorry, yup, should have checked the 'tech tips' first (but additional comments top this thread are very welcome).

The "door check horseshoes" are most likely the door hinge springs you referred-to in your first post.

yup, ordered the hinge pin/bushing kits and hinge springs. Should arrive today (gotta love Classic Parts turn around times). Then I get to stare at them for the next week while it's raining - must be Easter in St Louis - seems like every year, the week of easter we get a lot of rain.

Guess it'll give me some time to figure out how I'm gonna lift the doors on and off with just the wife and me.

Alvin, I think that "the little door check "horseshoes"" is an excellent description (that is exactly what they look like).

Unfortunately, searching on "horseshoes" in a truck parts catalog might not get many hits. shake
