i am hoping to make this into a short trip , daily , driver . i need assistance on tire & rim selection . would a 215/70r16 cause rubbing problems ( on turns ), or any other issues ? the reason for radials is better ride & control going down the byeway .

Big problem with the old trucks and radials is the GIANT tie rod end, which will be jammed into the radial tire. You need to find TALL skinny radials 80 or 85 series or modify the tie rod end.

Master 85, I think is a passenger car but with the I beam, same problemo as the pickups.

thanks for the help jim ! i have temporary 8.45 / 15 tires on it now . it has just under 1 1/4 inch clearance from the rim , to the tie rod end . i am thinking the 16 inch rim might be a little narrower , than the 15 inch rim , giving a little more clearance ? thanks frank

I recently read an article in Old Cars magazine where the author strongly recommended not putting radials on rims made for bias tires. The claim was made the the rims aren't designed to withstand the stress radials will place on them and can fail. I don't claim to be an expert nor do I necessarily agree. In fact I don't know. I'm just passing on information.

thanks tiny , i have read the same info . sounds like there are 2 different opinions to that . some are doing it with good luck . i'm thinking short trips would be ok , but long drives would have me concerned . i appreciate your input . frank

Here's the radial plan for my coupe, stock rims are running bias wide whites and NEW rims with radials for trips. Rims are cheap, so find suitable newer ones for your radials. The 6 lug truck rims are everywhere or step up for the NEW repro artillery units.

Look pretty and the cost isn't bad, but I've heard from someone that looked the repop artillerys over in person at Turlock that they weren't as nice as original wheels and don't take the original hubcaps. I am glad that Rally America decided to have these made though, as the cost of the 15" originals has gone crazy on ebay. I guess those crazy prices are what made them worth repopping though?

I looked at these at Turlock and these are as close as anyone will ever come to the real thing. As far as hub caps i have reproduction 41-48 caps on my Ralley wheels you have to get down on the ground to see that they are not correct. Just wish I'd hung on to the 3 sets of real ones I sold cheap some years ago, just like those cars and trucks I sold.
