The bolt pattern on the civilian 302 is 3-bolt, I think most military ones are the 4-bolt.

Tell us a little about your project as you already have many of us salavating over that 302!   The 302s are great engines and can be ran with a variety of different fuel setups. The Military version had a super low compression ratio... 6.5:1 so it could run on 67 octane gasoline. The Low compression ratio Military blocks almost begs for a blower, giving you 200+ hp. With other modifications it is not uncommon to see these 302s running with a 4bbl or even multicarburation with 2- 5 2bbl carbs, or fuel injection. | | |

#73764 02/25/2007 1:45 AM | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 13 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 13 | I have two 1953 canadian gmc which have the chev 216 engine.One truck runs but is rusty the other truck has good sheet metal.I was just given a complete american gmc chassis with a 248 and a three speed.The 248 is a standard bore,but needs a rebore,and a crank grind.I have not pulled the 302 apart yet,but I am leaning towards the 302,I am old school I believe big is better.I was considering a small four barrel carb,and using the 248 distributor with vacuum advance.
I am an engine machinist for detroit diesel canada,although I apprenticed as an auto mechanic.
