Just thought I would through this out. Kinda like a FYI type of thing. I live in the Rogue Valley area of Oregon. This is only one of two parts of the state where emissions testing is going on. Its is done only in Medford and no where else in the Valley. Portland area is the worst. They test rigs under load and have a high failure rate. Last year in the spring of 2006 a law was passed so that you can run older engines in any body you want as long as it burns clean. Not as strick as Calif. grin With spacers and some timing/tuning adjustment its not hard to do. After the rig is 20 years old there are NO emissions requirement. smile Oregon has some nice places to live. Cheaper than Calif and other states. Just a thought for those who want to keep those good ole' stove bolts going and not worry about emissions even if it is a newer style body. Good place to retire. Lots of old bolts here but mostly sitting in fieldsthough some are on the road with the original six or the common place small block. H. wink

They got rid of the Dyno test here in Portland. I took a car through last month and they just sniffed the tail pipe at idle. The bays where the dynos used to be are now solid concrete. The time before that they ran a dyno test on the same car. They didn't even rev the engine. This makes the test much easier to pass- as long as there is no visible smoke and the idle test passes you are ok.

We don't have the 20 years old window up in Portland though, it's still '74 or newer and they have to meet whatever the standard was when the vehicle was new.

Yes, it is beautiful here, and cheaper than California or Washington to live. Shh, don't tell anybody.

C'mon now guys, are you working for the Chamber of Commerce? It's true OR doesn't have a sales tax but what about the state income tax there and the property taxes. They are HIGH!! I looked carefully at OR before I retired, WA looked better all around. WA is also pretty friendly to old car buffs, we have a collector car plate that is a one-time fee. No annual inspections or renewal. My .02 worth.
