The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop What color was it ?.

Was there a code number or any other way to I.D. the color my 48 GMC panel trk factory color was ?.I found some green under some undercoating,I'am guessing it was green, but which one ?.Really hard to tell which green it was. Any help ?

The factory "default" color in '48 for GMC was Brewster Green; a very dark green. There is no color code number stamped or otherwise recorded for your GMC anywhere on the truck. The easiest way to tell the original color is by scraping/sanding slowly away on the bottom of the firewall where any repaints likely were not too thorough. Also under moldings and trim such as the headlight buckets, rear directionals (if you have them) just inside the door frames, and, the door trim around the window.

The interior color is matched under the dome light base where that never saw sunlight and didn't fade; most likely will match to 1986 Corvette Bronze Metallic which is what most GMC interiors using the dark bronze color are.

Thanks for the help. I've been told mine is an early 48 or late 47 because my front bumper is more like a passanger car than the flat stamped like my 50 chevy 1/2 has. Also there are 7/8" or 1" bars that pass throw the front of the fender wells and bolt to the frame that sopport the front grill. Would that make a diff in the default color ?. I'am leaning toward Morat green, not building a total stock panel,but want a factory paint look.
