I began a rewire of the entire truck in my 52 3600 today. Put in new tail lights, headlights, dimmer switch, turn signal switch. I also rebuilt the carb.

Not much as it's still in the storage yard. I did pick up an original splash pan for between the front grill and bumper for 50 bucks so I was happy. Looking to get hte truck to the house in the next couple of weeks or so.

I scraped and wire-brushed then primed and painted the Bell Housing. I also applied the new "JOBMASTER 261" Decal onto the Valve Cover.
Hopefully today, I can mount the block to the engine stand for the assembly process.

I brought my truck home on the trailer, drove it on and drove it off. It sure is easy loading it on the trailer with the granny gear. First time driving this truck since I got it 4 1/2 years ago. I can only go up and down the driveway til I get the safety and license done, but I may go for a rip down the road tomorrow.

I pulled the adjustable main jet off the suburban and put in a standard one. I never could get the adjustable one to run right. Seems to run a lot better this way.

I have the front end completely disassembled. Cleaning the frame and guess what: I found the chassis number on the left front part of the frame. After 1.5 years trying to figure out the exact year of the truck (at least cab and frame) it was my Xmas present. It is a '49. Now I can make a plate with the motor and chassis numbers.

Had a fun time with the temp gauge, some times no indication, sometimes to hot, finally chased it down to bad grounding from the motor to dash. Connected a wire from the motor to the firewall and the temp gauge works well. Rust is not a good conductor!!!

Fiddled with my rear door latch (thanks for sending that, Alvin). I grabbed a spring that I didn't realize the welder had heated up. I let go real quick, door closes perfectly but doesn't open.

I did not do anything on my bolt...per say but I did try and clean out my shed today and in doing that emptied all of its contents into the backyard. (The shed was full of my stovebolt body panels)....problem is It is now dark and my back yard is full of stovebolt stuff and my shed is not! hope it does not rain for it will be a few days before I can repack the shed and put those parts back to bed till they are needed.

Asked at the local parts house I go to for a wheel cylinder rebuild kit cost $12 , then asked how much for the wheel cylinder cost $10.50. I must have had an extremely puzzed look on my face but figured I may as well order 4 brand new cylinders

Does that mean you have to rely on brakes made in China?

Did you ever think about how with a full restore you have a Chinese truck. I think mine must be "nationality schizophrenic".

Way to go Leo, I can see your smile from here!!

yesterday I started the engine up for the second time. This time was to check the oil pressure guage, temp guage, and the tranny. Since I had it on jack stands I also checked the speedo!! So far so good.

Today, I finally got MAD enough to tackle the new grille once again. With pliers, punches, sockets, all kinds of wrenches, a floor jack and a piece of wood I think I can say I finally got it at least "close"!! Oh, I forgot about a few choice words along with the other tools.

If all goes well, I'll put the hood on it Friday...or saturday. Man, I hope at least it will go on good.

I ordered 2 more cans of Detroit Deisel Alpine Green paint and my gasket set for the 261 rebuild... I'll pick up the paint today. The gaskets should be in, Tuesday.
I also received and installed the remaining Exhaust Valve Guides for my 261 head... since I broke two, during the initial installation of the set!
While I was in that process, a UPS truck stopped and the driver delivered my connecting rod bearings. SWEET!
I brought home 2 steel strap clamps (from work) to adapt the frappin HF engine stand mounting plate to my bell housing.
Hopefully this weekend I can mount the engine & bell housing assembly onto the stand, paint the block and install the crank, piston assemblies and cam.
I'm getting closer!

Not exactly today, but this week. Still working on the doors, but getting real close to smooth. Pull the wheels and drums today, made up parts list for new wheel cylinders and few minor parts. Master cylinder cleaned. The dollar store equal of CLR really nails the rust but WAY cheaper, going to order rebuild kit (bore is pristine). Got new shocks on back (mine already had the shock conversion kit on it from who knows when). After some searching at Napa I found Napa sensatrac 37188 to be length match to what was on it (no numbers stamped at all) Interesting thing is these were made to get rid of the hideous Cadillac self leveling system, so they come with mounting hardware for that. Bought a front mount shock system on line that does not require any drilling to the frame to mount front shocks and got them on. Got a parts list for an order in the a.m. and then its back to those GDang doors again while I wait for parts to have brakes again! Just a good reason to put that motor back in and stop pushing that thing in and out of the garage,

Replaced the old rear spring bushings and pins today. The rear frame shackle bushings are a bear to install.I used a piece of 1/2"grade #5 fine thread rod as a puller. Ran it through the mount and the bushing and tightened nuts on both ends with washers and old king pin thrust bearings. Still had to heat up the frame mount to pull the bushings in but it worked out fine.
The bushings were much easier to install in the springs. And no I didn't heat the springs

This being the 1st nice day in months, I was able to do some rattle can painting today. I painted the bellhousing, starter, front brake backing plates and the oil filter canister, all gloss black, with the exception of the oil filter lid, which I painted Chevy engine orange.Waiting on king pins which will be here Monday, then I can start putting the front end back together to include spring shackles & rear eye bolts, kingpins, tierod ends, & brakes to include new shoes, lines, & wheel cylinders.

Rather than mechanical work on my Bolt, I did some research for future work I'll be performing in the next month or two. I did this research out at the Texas Motor Speedway where the Spring Goodguys show was going on. I've been to rod shows before but this took the cake. Thousands of street rods and all kinds of classics were being shown. Of course my eyes caught each and every Advance Design pickup. I was able to get some ideas of all the different ways to finish out my truck. Mainly cosmetic issues but also issues of cooling and wheels and upholstery.

I also got the chance to meet Cletis (Charley Hardin)and his bride in person after all these years.

New muffler came today.
My 235 has been running rough, almost as though its missing, noticable through the exhaust but not so much while listening up front. Anyway, new plugs and wires, new muffler (to remedy a poor decision to use a glass pack), rebuilt YF (one of three carbs I've switched out). I pulled the roter this evening and it looked a little fried along the edge, and two the contacts in the cap had some junk on them. cleaned everything up...still missing a bit. Tomorrow it gets a new roter and points, dist cap on order. I have some slight ticking in the valve train so I'll try to adjust those too. I miss driving my truck.

I drove my '55 1st to the local farmer's market, and loaded up the bed with avocado's, iceberg lettuce, an orchid, bananas, macaroon brownies, brussel sprouts, chiles, strawberries, and a custard pizza. Then I came home. Thus I ensured that adequate lubrication is spread around vital metal truck parts until next week. That wore me out, so I'm going in to eat that custard pizza.

Finished up tidying up the strut rod mount that I was in the process of removing, before I was rudly interupted by the cutting disc hitting my finger last week!
I also finished painting my drivers side front fender.

Also,as a correction to my previous thread, the paint job is a 30 footer, rather than the 20 feet I mentioned earlier......... eek

I fixed the transmission on the '56 today. I started to the Goodguys show in Fort Worth yesterday and it was shifting rough. So I brought it home and took another vehicle. Today I found the culprit. The vacuum line had come off the modulator valve.

Finally got around to drilling out the broken bolt that held the steering arm to the spindle on the drivers side. Installed the new kingpin. Mounted the updated brake backing plate (off a 57) and repacked the wheel bearings on that side (same stuff was done to the right side a few months ago) just need to find all the parts to do the brakes now smile

I wrastled with the doors putting all new rubber seals in.
Done now, but what an ordeal. There's gotta be a quick easy way to do it that i'm not aware of. Can't believe they did it on the assembly line like i tried.
6+ hours!!
bunch of screws that haven't been off in decades/or missing altogether that i had to get/find in the 5lb coffee can.
glad it's done now though!!!!
lots less ratteling and wind noise.
