I was wondering if anyone has purchased 22.5" tires lately for their big bolt. What manufacturer did you choose and why and if you don't mind , how much did you pay? THANKS!

Hi og55,

I haven't bought them yet but am about ready to. For two front steer tires (GEOSTAR G535 HWY 10R22.5) they are $244 each. For 4 drive tires (GOODYEAR G124 DRIVE 10R22.5) they are $203 each.

I have been buying a lot of Firestone lately. I think I get the most tire for the money. What size 22.5 are you inquiring about.

Hey crenwelge, I've read the article that a few of the guys put togehter about changing over from the 20" wheels to the 22.5". The article suggests using 9R22.5 tires, so I guess that is what I'm looking for. I've found the wheels but I don't have them yet.SEE YA!

9R22.5 is not a very popular size. If you find someone with some on hand that wants to get rid of them, you might be lucky. Otherwise, expect as much or more than what I pay for tires on my semis.

OG you are better off shopping for 10R22.5s. The 9Rs are a weirdo size now and (as it has been mentioned before) will probably cost you more. 10R is a common size in modern medium duty trucks and you'll pick up some diameter (top end speed). 10Rs will also dually up fine if you are worried about that. I made the switch on my '66 C50 and the dually setup has plenty of clearance from tire to tire.

If he has the 10 lug wheels with 7.25" bolt pattern then 10R22.5 tires are out of the question.

Those wheels only came 5.25" wide, and a 8-22.5 tire is recommended. 9R22.5 will fit but are recommended for a 6" minimum wheel, so while it can work it's not exactly by the book either.

Couple years ago I got a $1,200 quote for 6 new tires installed.
in the meantime found a decent used set on Craigslist for next to nothing.

Hey Grigg, I was referring to he article you guys wrote about the 9R22.5 tires and the 22.5 wheels from 56 1.5 ton. The wheels are 5.25 wide. The tires you got the price of 1200 on, were they 9R22.5 and what manufacturer? Do I need a big name tire or should I just get the cheapest ones? Also I was thinking about all season tires on both axles.

Again, it was a few years ago when I priced 9R22.5 tires, Yokohama I think they were, a reasonably rough tread for the rear and normal straight tread for the front.

I wouldn't buy the cheapest tires you can find, because even those will be expensive and if they turn out to be lousy you're kind of stuck with them. I'd buy reasonably priced ones that your tire dealer recommends, preferably a brand you've heard of and people say good things about.

Again, take a look for used ones if you find a set for a few hundred and they look good it's probably worth the chance.

Hey Grigg, Thanks for the reply. I have an idea of what I'm going to do but I like to hear what others have done in the past. I've been watching craigslist and I have penty of time before I need the tires. SEE YA!
