Are the steering wheels from a big bolt the same size as a 1/2 ton? My wheel from my 36 is 19 inches if I recall correctly... I am toying with the idea of a slightly smaller wheel but want the same look...

Hey Corpo, I don't know about a 36 but wheel in my 55 2 ton is 18" and I beleive that is the same as the 1/2 ton. SEE YA!

If you don't have power steering, a smaller wheel will make it harder to steer. Just something to think about. Good luck.

For what it's worth, WW2 Chev and GMC had at least one pattern of similar looking (wood rim, stamped steel spokes, solid hub)steering wheels in 18 and 20" sizes (I think Canadian Chev and GMC DUKW respectively but I could have it backward). Some prefer the 18" even if their truck would likely have been fitted with 20" to have more belly clearance (driver, not truck), others prefer 20" for lighter steering, still others will only settle for the "correct" size and fourth group are happy to have a good old wheel in whichever size they can get.

Im not to worried about it being harder to steer my build is a little different but basically it will never see any sort of great weight...

The photos in the link are not my steering wheels. Just as my trucks are in various states (but none finished) so are the steering wheels. One NOS, one slightly weathered but usable another with the wood fallen off but sandblasted, straightened and welded as needed and painted waiting for the new wood to be made and installed.

Grant.. my wheel is like the lower left the 3 spoke wheel.. (NOS early rubber wheel)

those wooden rimed wheels are really cool... ill have to keep my eyes out for one of those.. would look really nice all restored..
