have ordered a 6 lug front disc brake kit from ccp and now need to find a 6 lug 16 inch wheel/tire combo that will work well for it. seems like there are alot of different stock rims and i want to get the right parts the first time if possible. also what are the different widths available? thyanks alot aubrey | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 109 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 109 | I'm just getting started on a 66 Burb. No power steering will probably dictate narrow rims and tires for now. Big wide tires look neat but they are very hard to drive with no PS. And hotrod or stock? My original rim size is 15x5.5 inch with a 6.70x15 tire. Backspacing is another issue that you need to look at. Mine was 3.75 inches. Yours being earlier yet, will be even narrower. Someone will pop in in a bit with some good recommendations. Someone gave me this website. Good info. https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

I am not too concerned just want to be sure that the ones i buy are the ones from your photo /project. any tips on how to id them would be appreciated. thanks for the help aubrey | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | On any stock wheels you buy, the part that fouls the caliper will be the same as shown in the picture. The varying widths will have no effect on clearing the brake assembly. I'd recommend a wheel wide enough to accept a 215/85R16 tire. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 39 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 39 | which width works best for the 215/85R16? also i assume when you say stock you mean stock for the 51 not a later model is that correct? thanks alot for the help. aubrey | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | Your '51 probably has 4" rims. I've read that some people have put that size tire on them. However the tire company charts show that to be narrow. I'd look for some wider rims from a task force truck.
Or you could do like I did and have new 6" rims put on stock centers. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 39 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 39 | right now my 3600 has 16 INCH 8 lugs. I am converting to a half ton axle in order to use the kit. I am looking for rims for sure. any advice on where to find used task force rims in central TX? Have been told that the task force rims will be 5 inch and have three clips.i think they should work on a 215 tire and i will be able to cover up the hubs with a dog dish so that the mod is not so obvious. any advice on used parts locations would be great. thanks aubrey | | |
