The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk 1945 Chev Pick-up

What recently came to my possession is a 1945 Chevrolet pick-up. I do not know a lot about the production of this truck or the specs. Wondering how rare this truck is???
I do know it is a Canadian made Chevrolet as it was used for Standard Oil Company in Alberta back in 1945. (In fact the signs are faintly noticeable on the doors still). All the places that one would think should be chrome-plated are in fact gray color.

I just sold my '45 a few weeks ago. As far as American Art Deco trucks it's the rarest of all in that series. What question did you have?

I have heard that production on American trucks is 6200? Is this true? But this is a Canadian model truck as the vin plate shows MADE IN CANADA - would that production number be different yet again?
Also - what would be most appropriate, restore to original (chrome-delete look) or restore to a typical Wurlitzer Jukebox?

I'm a proponent of keeping them original when possible or at least being faithful to original in the restoration. They are only original once and even if restoration is necessary, keeping the restoration faithful to original is preserving a bit of history.

welcome to the garage crank - yes, the CDN trucks were numbered separate from the US system - I haven't seen any 'certified' production records for either country

how you resurrect it is entirely your call, if you want to save a piece of history you might consider trying to put it back to the Standard Oil condition, if you want to show off some bling at summer car shows, chrome may be your thing .... just don't forget to 1ink us up some pictures however you do it

I had a 45 chevy and another thing besides no chrome is they did not grind down the welds on the lower windshield posts.I think they used leather around the gas tank filler and no rubber mats.Hope this helps some.
