Did they ever make a "Custom Cab" with a Stepside truck? I have only seen them with a fleetside bed. Just curious as I'am slowly making mine into one.
Thanks guys,

Since the custom cab included body side molding, and they didn't have body side moulding that was used on stepsides..... | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 63 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 63 | I know! it's a perplexer. Anyway I am about 3/4 done, I'm just missing the trim piece that wraps around the rear of the cab that connect the side "sails" together. Got all my interior custom stuff. I did get a set of the fleetside "belt" molding I'm brainstorming with ideas to maybe make a "custom,...custom" cab stepside truck by somehow designing and incorperating the molding to adapt to a stepside. One thought was to simplify the original belt molding along the side to one strip of trim and then do the "arrow" part of the trim (That's what I call the end of the belt trim on the rear quarter) on the actual rear fenders. I know it's not 100% stock but I believe the spirit of the orginal style would be there. If anyone has there thoughts or ideas on what to do with the side moldings by all means please let me know!.
Thanks,as always -Danny

(Trim, big window, upholstery) My cab has the big back window & when I got the truck had just the holes that hold the "sails". I didn't know there was a trim piece that wrapped under the rear window...Does anyone have a pic of this, please? RJ, do you have this trim & have you ever seen a stepside with it? Thanks everyone..interesting thread if you own one of these... -Gil

the paint divider(trim along back of cab under window) was 1960 only IIRC | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 189 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 189 | 1960 was the only year that had the trim under the rear window, if it was a custom cab my guess it had the sail panels, stainless w/s trim, aluminum grill and a chrome front and rear bumpers. i do have NOS 60 trim under back glass in stock.email me at: rjsisneros@ria.net for pictures and more info. | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 800 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 800 | GMC definitely had stepside trucks with deluxe cabs. They also had 2 tone paint jobs. No trim on the bed or fenders at all. If you go to OLDGMCTRUCKS.com (have to have an account or I'd post the link) and go to painting section, 1960 paint regulations, you'll see a photo of one. As for Chevrolet, we can only speculate, but it is my opinion that a deluxe cab was most definitely available with a stepside. Remember, the Stepside was the only bed available for so many years until '55. Chevy couldn't possibly deny a customer from having an upgrade cab with the bed that many customers still preferred. | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 63 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 63 | GMC definitely had stepside trucks with deluxe cabs. So is the GMC "Deluxe Cab" same as Chevys "Custom Cab"? I like the idea of two tone paint....:) | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 171 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 171 | A few years ago I found in a junk yard in Lowville ,NY , A 64-66[beleive it was a 65] GMC six foot step side Deluxe cab with all the trim, chrome grill and bumpers,V6 four speed and 4 wheel drive, It even had a GMC script original radio, witch I bought. I thought at the time this was an unusual truck, The truck had been a plow truck for years, looked at the time to be fairly complete but with the price of scrap since then I think it would be gone now . | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 175 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 175 | I wonder if it was not a standard option but a factory option to have a deluxe cab with a stepside bed, it wouldn't seem that unless you were buying a fleetside with the trim option too many people would want the deluxe cab. I have seen 2 step sides with deluxe cabs but I can't say for sure if they were ligit. | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 | The 1964 pickup truck brochure depicts a stepside custom cab on the third page IIRC-fleetside CC is on one side, the stepper on the other. They just left off the side moldings on steps-the molding was also available separately(w/o Custom equip)on fleets. | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 17 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 17 | Hi, Could somebody tell me what exactly are the differences between Custom Cab and standard on a 64 stepside?
