I have a spare 1404 Edelbrock 500 cfm that I was thinking about using to replace the stock carb on my 292. I was going to buy an Offy intake to put it on since it appears the "web consensus" is that the Offy is more well behaved on the street than the Clifford. Does anyone have any experience using the Edelbrock on a 292, 250, or 261? Thanks.

I have experience with Edelbrock carbs and Offy intakes, just not together. I have a 1405 (650) on my daily driver 302 Ford and am really happy with it. I have an Offy intake on my 63 Chevy with a 250 (3 2 barrel carbs) and has great throttle response and power in the rpm range you'd normally run on the street. (1200 to 3000 rpm)
Double check to make sure the Edelbrock will bolt to the Offy intake, if I remember correctly, I think there may be an interference issue there somewhere. There may be an adapter available if it doesn't.
I think the 500 would do well on a 292. My suggestion is, if you're not going to use the stock exhaust manifold, be sure to run some type of heat source to warm the intake, especially during the cold months. I have engine coolant plumbed to warm mine but I still have to wait until the engine has reached operating temp before driving in cold weather. If it were an automatic trans it may not be as bad.

Thanks oakandiron. So you have the water plate for the bottom of the Offy? I was thinking about the Langdon cast headers or the one below. Mine are currently cracked. I can't decide if I want the dual exhaust or not, or if it is really worth it. I heard that there are some clearance issues with the Clifford manifold and the Langdon's that I could avoid with the Offy. I will have to do some research on the Edelbrock clearance issue on the Offy you mentioned as well. Thanks again....

Yep, that's exactly what I'm running.

I'm running Langdon's cast iron headers as well. I did have to grind a bit on some of the hold down clamps since the flanges of the headers and intake were different in thickness.
