Got the engine running again and timed almost correctly. New issue is that I seem to have a hole in the passenger side of the block, slightly above the oil level inside the block and located below the Number Two cylinder (right behind the alternator, under the fuel pump). The hole is threaded. When the engine idles, no oil comes out. When the engine is gunned or idles high, oil splashes out.

Apparently, I seem to have lost whatever it was that went in this hole.... What was in this hole? I currently have a short bolt threaded into it to keep the oil in but am not sure if this is a good idea or not.

Anyone know what this is and what I need to put back in that hole?

Thanks,
John

I see the picture. Looks oily and the rocks below the truck are wet. See?

Maybe drop the engine. Open it up and take a picture from the inside. I guess no one has any ideas on its purpose.

I think it would be too weird for it to be an accessory mounting hole, so could it be a plug for the oil galley? Is it pipe thread or SAE? Do you have good oil pressure with it open / closed?

. It is in a weird and very inaccessable place. It just might be a simple plug as I see no difference in the oil pressure between it being open and with a 7/16 bolt stuck in it. It probably is pipe thread as the SAE bolt didn't seem to fit quite right.

Thanks for the ideas!

John

If it's a pipe thread and you've managed to get a 7/16" bolt in it it surely didn't fit well, to much difference in thread pitch for any possible combinations that might sort of fit.

Try an 1/8" pipe plug, see if it fits nicely?
