I thought they pointed up on the 235...I have CRS so maybe it was another truck. Also on the gasket we used Permetx red on both sides of the gasket when installing fuel pumps has this changed with the passing of time..THANKS, Steve

If it has a bowl, that bowl goes up. It will only work one way, and I'm pretty sure it is with the lever pointing up.
The pump has a definite suction and discharge side.

I bought the pump without the bowl as I have an inline filter...still can't get this truck to run for more than a mile before gas starvation symptons...I'll keep working on it.... bit by bit...Steve

I have had disgruntled employees stick rags and such in forklift fuel tanks. It does the same starvation routine. Would this be a possibility?
A very basic test would be to bypass the fuel tank with a temporary supply, such as a plastic gas can...see if the truck makes it any further.

I have had my eye balls in the fuel tank opening with a led light and the tank is way clean and I put the line tank sock on which was missing....I'm checking out the line from bottom black flex hose under the truck tank to pump...I'm going to put it under pressure with air and see what comes out on a clean white rag...but I have a pump so I will change it out just for grins...with a new fuel line at the same time...see what happens. This weekend I may not have the time...I'll fix it one way or the other....my sort of "related to" mechanic says to stop fooling around its the carb change it period! No more trouble shooting... yeah right...Steve

Compare the mounting flange on your old one with the new pump and you can tell which way it mounts.

Throw one of those disposable filters inline below the tank, that will tell you for sure if its having problems from the tank. As soon as it dies, climb under and if the filters dry youve got crap in your tank.
Other then that Id try cleaning the carb out. You would be so surprised to know what a speck of gunk can do inside that carb. I had issues with the jet being plugged on several of my trucks. Just enough to let it run fine parked, as soon as it was driven itd stumble. Just cleaned out another carb that ran for 5-10 minutes before dieing, runs fine now.
Good luck. Jeff | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 58 hmmm. | hmmm. Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 58 | Back in the summer of 76' I had a similar experience. It was a speck of dirt in the carb jet, replaced the fuel pump and off I went. I am replacing it today, 40 years later, same truck, new remacd engine. Except the pump will not seat flush against the block....grrrr.
