I hadn’t thought about the air in the lines. If bleeding them doesn’t work I’ll move this over to HiPo.

Body work and more body work. It is amazing how many tiny dents and dings a truck can have that you never noticed before. I have some aches that I have not felt in many a year. Did get the inside door panels down to good bare metal and primed. Going to pull out the front fenders tomorrow and fit them to the truck and go over them for any repairs.

This is the first chance I had to work on my new 1 Ton. The previous owner stated the brakes were seized and I was only able to get it to roll with winches and come-a-longs. Not even a long prybar would push this truck downhill off the trailer. So I decided the rear brakes were a good place to start so I can move it around easier. Unlike my 3/4ton, I easily backed off the shoes and removed the drums with a couple whacks with a rubber mallet. A little cold yet so I won't disassemble the brakes themselves till it gets warmer.

Repaired my centre floor panel,it'll do until I can find a good second hand one or buy a new one.

I finally got all the air out the brakes and have a good firm pedal.
I was having trouble getting brake fluid through to the left rear.
Thanks to my able assistant(Mrs Jock) for the legwork!

Now and only now can I actually start and(safely)drive it out the garage for the first time ever in 6 years!
I plan to do this tomorrow.(Can't wait!)

What did I do today?? I only drove my truck for the first time ever!!

OK,so it needs the trans topped up,a final bleed of the brakes,and the alignment done,but it moved........

I'm de-rusting wheels electrolytically today. Good times!

Today as no work took out the seats removed drained cleaned petrol tank, while it was out made sure the drain plug is free and resealed back in. Cleaned every inch of the cab of rust dirt Found drain slits on cab corners blocked so full of ice melted that and dried the out and cleaned them out, Will be undersealing the inside of the cab Corners tommorrow as they have now dried out.Will be painting and insulating all the cab when I can find some jute padding local (Floors and behind the Tank first). Everything is solid with no holes and just surface rust so far :o)

Not the most productive day in spite of being in the shop all afternoon. I had to fasten the metal heat duct deflector thingy up under the dash, the vacuum wiper unit was in the way. Took it down and lost part of the retainer that holds the wiper arms to the unit. Looked half an hour for that small piece. Also had to remove the speedo from the dash, didn't sit quite right. Try again on Thursday.

I got the fenders primed, seats out of cab abd ready to get primed in the morning.

Got the new windshield frame,glass and gasket installed on the 37 today and will take it for a spin tomorrow.

Pulled the truck out the garage to try and set the alignment a bit closer to factory spec,and discovered the MII lower strut rod mount had separated from the chassis!
Lucky I found out before I hit the main roads...
Time to source a set of tubular lower arms methinks.

Took the wind out my sails a bit though.

I'm going to pull the front suspension apart today and check all welds.
This scared me a bit.

I am hoping to take it out for a drive today. the weather is the best it has been in a couple of months. not warm but at least clear.

got tired of waiting for the sandblaster schedule to free up, started blasting my frame myself today, should be applying KBS by saturday.

Got my "Year of Manufacture" plate (finally found a good one on eBay) registered down at the county tax office. Had to educate them a bit but got'r'dun.

I took it out for a ride and some gas today. It was only 20 degrees out, but it was sunny, and the cab warmed up nicely.

Got the speedo unit back in, got the cowl vent all hooked up, fastened in the choke and throttle knobs, re-installed the wiper motor, finished the dash lights and wiring to the ign switch. I was only in the shop a good hour.

I'll be taking my 1951 plates to the county tax office next month. I understand that I should be able to use them if no other plates with those numbers are currently being used. What problems, if any, did you have at your tax office?

Greased the front end on the '40 with some of that clever MBL stuff .

Pulled the inner door panel off the driver side on the 37 pickup. Took the latch apart to find the spring was broken. Did a little disecting on it and a spare latch and got it back in adn working fine.
Also put a new door handle bezel in but that was a booger and still is not TIGHT. I even used a rubber O-ring on each side but its still a job. I think the tool to install them with is just not up to the task. I bought it 10 years ago when first installing them and still can't get the bezels tight :mad:
But, its back together and much better than it was. So, not a bad day.

I'm holding off on the Tiawan grille till I get back from Lousisane.... and saving up all those little 4 letter words.

I hope your daughter's Benz is not in too bad a condition.

1. Had to make them re-research that '45 and '46 only issued one plate, so I couldn't possibly have 2 plates (supervisor had a look of relief on her face when she thought I needed 2 and she could send me packin').

2. Then told them it didn't matter that it was a truck but the plates weren't (would love to have found some but only one I did was $450 - pass). That was a bluff as I've never seen that in writing but have heard they wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Sure 'nuff.

3. They were trying to be helpful, took almost 1/2 an hour once they started, had to call Austin, look in their manuals, etc. As they were trying to enter it, the system wouldn't allow it, but (not sure exactly what they did) they eventually got to a screen that let them enter one character per field and that seemed to do it.

Good luck, be persistent, and let them know it's been done, they just need to stay on it until they make it work.

Supervisor indicated "this whole thing is gonna change soon" regarding YOM plates, had heard rumors they were trying to eliminate them, so enjoy while you can.

On the other hand, (knock on wood) been driving the Green Farmer going on 4 months now with original '69 plates, no stickers anywhere and not a single cop has given me a second glance. So maybe when they see an old one they just ignore them?

As a compromise to allow me to get the truck registered and on the road a little quicker,I've decided to paint the truck satin black.
It's been in my garage way too long.(I guess I've been spending too much time on the HAMB!)
The shiny paint will come as and when I've got more $$$$!

I am doing a rattle can paint job,I painted the P/S door yesterday and I'm pretty pleased with the results.
I also managed to get good coverage without the usual 'tiger stripes'.
The hood might be a challenge though.....

I wish i did more then I actually did....grinding, grinding and more grinding.

I actually made some progress - installed the second taillight, figured out some of the wiring for the turn signals, discovered the passenger side front wheel bearings hadn't been properly torqued by the PO, found enough play in one of the tie rod ends that it'll need replacement...and I replaced the leaking rubber fuel hose at the base of the tank.

All-in-all, good progress.

It's going to be a 20' paint job Big,but it's actually looking not too bad if I say so myself......
Although some of my 'repairs' are showing through.

Going to install the Ididit steering column and steering shaft today. Pulled the Chrysler column out last month that the previous owner had put in it.!

Wiring of the cab is finished, all I need to do is attach the wires to the front and rear lights (When the fenders are back on). A/C is in and wired still have to run the hoses. Fuel Pump installed and wired.

Brakes went on the ’65 this week so it’s been getting all my attention. After trying to figure out what some previous owner had installed, we gave up and put in a new chrome booster and chrome master cylinder and new steel lines. All I need to do now is bleed the system.

I vulcanized by tranny mount plate. After clean out all the old blobs of rubber I could, I burned out the last crumbs. Sanded the area clean and around the original rivets (sand paper wrapped around a big screw driver). Then MEK to make sure it was very clean. Every thing looked perfect. So I took the rubber pads from a rebuild kit and used them as shims to get the spacing right. Used metal ducting tape to seal and hold everything in in position. Remove the shims. Used the correct Hapco industrial urethane kit, mixed and poured it in. After it was set to solid I carefully pulled and scraped the tape and cleaned up the excess. Note if you leave the areas you do not want the urethane to bond to un-sanded and even leave some paint if there is any it is much easier to clean off any excess that gets on it. Now my mounts are going to finish 100% cure overnight. They will be totally sealed against moisture and totally oil and gas resistant unlike if I had used the rubber pads and bolts from a kit. Nice work, Wasat. You should consider writing a tech tip and submitting it.

Put some 1953 5 lug car hubs on my 51 3100 put my weld racing rims on and this thing has got a sweet stance.

I will have to figure how to submit a tech tip. I plan on doing my floor,access covers and toe boards with some of this stuff or one of their other #'s. I have their sample discs and will pic the best feel. The pans are pitted and want to put a 1/4 inch coating on everything, then when it is almost ready to set I will release spray some floor mat material and impress the pattern into it. That way it will look like custom fit mats but my floor will be sealed completely and the panels and access covers will still be removable, not to mention it will be a sound deaden-er to boot.

Rain today but still got my starter stomp button rubber cast. It may be a little frill but it is a girls truck. First I made a mold of the door knob face with this product I got at Hobby Lobby (model section)Hapco sells similar product also. Sprayed mold with mold release. Then poured in my hard rubber and let it set up a bit. Pushed my starter button into in and wired it so it would not sink. After it set pretty good (few hours) I removed it, trimmed a little and was done. The mold is still good for hundreds of more casts.See next 10 photos.
