They were either dealer installed or aftermarket. Its a good idea to have one on there. You would be surprised how much cleaner the oil is on the dipstick.

I don't expect that it is an unusal item, new to me , but what is the opinion of these things? (Wrench). It appears to bolt to the area where the small plate is beneath the manifold and near the outlet that a flex line would go.
There are most likely alot of the other type of filters availabe,but this may be an option as well.
