My Subject line wasn't very accurate...the choke knob isn't getting stuck, per se...my issue is that after I use the choke, then push in the knob, it doesn't (at the carburetor) push the choke back to the original position, making it rev. So I have to open the hood and manually move it back to it's original position. I've tinkered with it over and over at the connection point where the choke cable attaches to the carburetor (not sure about the terminology), but I can't get that cable to return the choke to the original position? Any suggestions? Thanks.

You aren't saying what year engine and/or what carb you're referring to. My '38 W1 has a spring that returns the choke butterfly to the open position. If you have a W1 the spring may be broken or the shaft sticky enough that the spring can't pull it back or the clamp that holds the choke cable wire isn't tight allowing the wire to slide through the clamp. FYI this thread will probably get moved to the engine shop forum. This is the electrical bay for electricity related issues.

I re-posted in engine shop, but in reading your reply I didn't realize that there's supposed to a spring to pop the choke back position. I'll have to look at it to see how it (a spring) might fit on there, and what type it'd be. Thanks

Yeah, I've got that spring on it, but I wonder if isn't 'tight' enough to take it back into position? Thanks for posting the pic, tclederman...I appreciate it.

...and where could I get another one of those springs? Hopefully the answer's not, 'acquire (buy) another Rochester carb and take the spring off of it.'

If it's not broken it should return the butterfly easily. If it's not broken but won't return the butterfly it may just need to be loosened up some. It may just be some crud built up & working it manually some may free it up. A good healthy dose of carb cleaner can't hurt either.

it's not broken; i'll try carb cleaner (the spring has never worked...where you move the choke to (when NOT hooked up to choke cable) is exactly where it stays...it's never sprang back to any starting position.

the choke butterfly should be spring loaded on it's own, need to fix that, may be that it's not properly installed

It is really easy when putting the side linkages back on the carburetor, to end up with the spring on wrong. It can look like it is correct but not doing the job. It should be providing opening torque all the time. You can see the ends of the spring to see if it is working correctly.

interesting truckernix. I'll check when home, but I'm almost sure that, if you're looking down at the spring, the curved end that 'hooks' is pointed down. Yeah, it's definitely providing opening torque. I tried the carb cleaner, but that's not what it needed afterall. Yeah, it must be installed incorrectly. Thanks

oh, one more thing, this regarding the throttle cable. I know the end of it points downward (as opposed to the choke cable ending horizontally), but where/how does it connect? Thanks
