I have seen some shaft kits that are supposed to be for both the 216 and 235,the kit also came with bushings which are for the 216 but can the 235 rocker arms be drilled out to install the bushings. I need to rebuild the rocker arms for my 57 235 and thinking about buying one of those old shaft kits.

I bought a set for my 1938 216, on Ebay. I haven't got around to the motor yet but I assume they were something that was made for those old style rockers.

With the proper setup in a lathe or a milling machine, it would probably be possible to bore the rockers out, press in bushings, and ream or hone them to fit the shafts. "Drilling" would probably ruin them. You'd have more labor time invested than it would be worth to try to save a worn-out part. Those rockers aren't scarce enough to justify heroic rebuilding efforts.

Brokenhead, do you remember what you payed? I had my rockers for my 54 done for about $200 a couple years ago by Chev's of the 40's. I was real happy with the work and my dealings with them.

$180 comes to mind, it is possible they sent them out, I never really asked if they did the work personally. I do know it was a nice job though.

I think Chevs of the 40s is a little over 200 plus a 50 dolar core charge, since I have a extra set I would just send it in with the money. With all the adjusting I have done I still cant get it right so they must be worn out.
