What year engine are we talking about here? There are a few different designs, some with an oil filler cap incorporated, others without. 216 or 235?

There are a bunch of different designs. You could ask that question. Or ask for the design of your year. Then go to EBay or the swap meet.

I am sure you will find what you need

Dave,

The most likely you are referring to: Blue Funk: a '51 3100 4 OTF with a '57 235? You should confirm this (often people post questions about engines that do not match the engine in their profile "signature").

What type of valve cover do yo have? Is it sealed or vented? What type of oil filler cap do you have (is it sealed or vented) and, just to be safe, is it attached to the top of the valve cover?

I would appreciate knowing when they stopped using the oil cap version on 3100 216 engines.

Thanks for the replys, guys.

Yeah, Tim, I'm referring to the 1957 235. Since I am always referring to the same truck, that's the reason why I put all that information in my signature. That Blue Funk has has a vented filler cap, attached to the top of the valve cover.

I believe I have locted one.

Thanks again.

I have a 56 with the 316 c i pontiac engine. I think when the truck was new we had a problem of engine oil being "pushed" -forced out and trailing back and up the tail gate. The tube I think is the draft tube is shaped some what like the handle and a bit of the stem of a walking cane. The draft tube is located near the fire wall and distributor. Does this seem logical ?? Can you fix my ignorance I don't want to be stupid for a long time-- Thanks, tom

Tom,

You would be better off posting a new message with your question. The people who might know about a 316 are often not the people who know about 216/235/261 engines.
