Are all 41-46 1/2ton torque tubes the same length? My buddy has a 41 with a 4 spd and I have a 46 with a 3 spd. Are these interchangeable? He wants my torque tube when I change over to a T5 and open driveline.

Thanks
George

I don't know about length, but I can tell you I had the u-joints out of a '42 3 speed and they were not interchangeable with a '46 4 speed.

I hate those torque tube setups.. had 'em in my '46 1/2 ton and my '50 1/2 ton, and both of them gave me nothing but problems.

an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

The Chevrolet parts book shows 1941-46 all 1/2 tons as using the same torque tube assembly.

George, The total length of the original 4 spd granny box from my '45 is 11 1/2 inches from the front face to the rear torque tube flange face. If your 3 spd is the same, so is the torque tube length. Does that make sense? john.

Thanks guys. John, I'll have to measure my 3spd, but I think it will work out. My buddy wants my setup because it has the 3.55 gears. He wants to ga a little faster but has no intrest in swapping to a T5. I think this will be a simlpe bolt in and go operation.

Thanks again
George

46 In Progerss, I'm still looking for a 55-62 rear end/pumpkin so that I can go with an open drive line with a T5 trannie. Steppenwood and others have already done this swap. It seems the way to go for me anyway.

If you are interested John did a great tech tip on the switch.

George
