I just got the tank out of mine and it is in pretty bad shape. A buddy said he had a 57 pick-up tank for cheap if it would work. So would it work or am I better off trying to find a 49 tank? Where would be the best place to look?

'57 tank is different. Best bet is to buy a new tank from one of our vendors. Any old tank is likely to have issues. I have new tanks in both my '49's and no issues with either of them. Even if you do find a decent original tank, by the time you get done screwing around with tank sealers, dipping or constantly buying new filters, or finding out after a few weeks it still leaks ... you might as well just spend the money up front for a new tank and avoid the hassles.

I have had very good luck with Spectra Premium tanks. They are made in Canada and fit perfect. There is a guy in Maryland on eBay who sells them for $185 with shipping. I have bought about a dozen tanks from him. Although the 49 and 57 look similar at first, the early ones fill on the passenger side and the later ones fill on the drivers side.

Thanks for the replys and I had looked at it a couple of times with no responses and was a little bummed. I just got motitvated to get this dump truck running, I got stuck in my back yard and need to haul gravel. I called the local Radiator shop and they said two to four weeks to get the old one cleaned out and probably $100 or more depends. I am now in the market for a new tank.
