We got an email from Dale "ltmdwb" Bridge. He is a collector of trucking company insignia patches. AND ... he's been invited to display them at the 2011 National ATHS show in South Bend, Indiana this year.

Dale has over 1800 patches from the trucking industry that he has been collecting for over 35 years.

He also includes on his main page, over 100 patches from other collectors.

How we can help

Dale needs some help in identifying some of the patches in his collection.
Anything here look formaliar to you?

And ... if you know anybody with some patches to add to his display, put them in touch with Dale either here or on his site.

If you have any patches to sell or trade, let him know. He's collecting, remember. thumbs_up

See if we can help make a dent in his information whole!

If there's more to add, Dale will surely chime in. Don't call him Surely, tho.

eeeek

Peg

Thanks in advance to anyone that takes time to read the post and help me to identify patches.

Just a little background on me. I started my relationship with trucks on June 19, 1972 as I drove into the parking lot of International Harvester’s Truck Assembly operations in Fort Wayne, Indiana. That series of buildings produced the Transtar, Fleetstar, Paystar and Scout vehicles, as well many of the axles and transmissions that went into the medium and heavy duty trucks. As I walked through the factory I saw many of the colors of fleets that International was building trucks for and wondered how I could connect to that customer. Later that year I began to write letters and talk to people to see if I could get a uniform patch from that company. Now some 38 years later I am still doing my best to find those patches and have over 1,900 in my exhibit.
This exhibit has been shown over the last few years to well over 25,000 people at more than 15 events and I add more shows/events each year. I also show it at individual club meeting in the area so if your group would like me to be at one of your meetings talk with me and let’s see if we can work it out.
I have been asked to show my exhibit at the 2011 ATHS National Show in South Bend, so for that I am interested in adding more to this exhibit. If you have some that you would like have added to my exhibit contact me at [email protected]. If you know people that have patches that I could add to the exhibit also contact me. I am always interested in buying or trading patches

A lot of them look familiar. Many of them went under after Motor Carrier Act of 1980 which deregulated interstate carriers. Some are still around such as ATS or Anderson Trucking Service and Fikes Trucking which are still going strong. Others such as Chemical Express or CX was a monopolistic carrier of bulk cement powder in Texas during the 50's and began declining in the 80's. The deregulation in Texas in 1995 was the final blow for them. I had a guy driving for me up until less than a year ago who lost 37 years of retirement when CX went under. AJF was a trailer leasing company who I used to lease extra trailers from in the 80's. They sold out. TIP is still an active trailer leasing company worldwide.
