All I have currently is the original wires that run down the frame rail (good shape) that have been cut clean about 2/3 of the way back. I'm thinking of going to the local u-pull it, and getting a harness from a later model truck with the removable plug set up, so that I can get the trailer wire interface plug that goes inline. Am I all wrong in thinking this would be the best way to do it? I can do basic wiring and such, but this just seems like it would be the easiest/cleanest solution....??? What do you guys think? | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 247 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 247 | Kerry It seems to me the other option would to be to make or find a wiring harness for that truck. You would still have to tap into the harness to wire the trailer. That could be quite a mess by the time you get done. If you can find a harness and make it work, that might make a nice clean instillation.

I'm thinking a 90's vintage p/u would be new enough to have the integrated plug for the in-line trailer wire adaptor. It will come with color-coded wires and it can be adapted to whatever lighting system you've got already (if any) or some kits come with the tail lights included. Jerry

It was a 93 Chevy p/u that someone had already added the inline trailer wire adaptor to. It will be perfect! No extra wires except a back-up light wire, and I am going to utilize that as well. For anyone needing a tail light harness, this year truck (93) works out well, as it does not have multiple wires going to multiple bulbs.....just three wires, like our old rigs have. (well 4 including the back-up light)......easy to wire up! | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 77 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 77 | Well I finally got a chance to go to the "yard" yesterday, and found a perfect donor vehicle. I was thinking along the same lines of using the GM trailer wiring and socket. I'll most likely just splice onto existing wires. Then I'd just run the brake wire next to original harness until I got to the new trailer harness. Pete | | |
