k got my 55 bread truck... its got 16" drums on the back and 14" up front. why did they do that? I need new tires and at $216 a piece for 700x18s I just cant swing it.and of course 16" dually rims don't fit.. and I want radials.. so.. what the hell do I do? I am going to see if I can locate a later 1 ton HO72 to see if I can get either smaller brakes or the whole axle. unless there is something else i can do? help!

come on dude, the back brakes are bigger because when its loaded, thats where the weight needs to be to stop it, if its empty the front is heavier and only needs the back to "Line up" the braking direction. If it doesn't the truck will spin out (swap ends)of control. As for tires, look for used, junk yards, craigslist excetra. or swap to newer with discs. I just pulled a ho72 514 out of a 67 one ton, going back with a gm corp 14 for gearing reasons and discs

I would wait until you have the money for the 700 18s they will last you a long time .If you change the type of wheels ,tires or the rearend it will cost much more in the long run.
Good luck

The corresponding tubeless tire to the 18" tube type is a 19.5". They can be run interchangeably, even side-by-side with each other. The same thing holds true with 20" tube type and 22.5" tubeless. Quite a few bakeries ran the 19.5's on their delivery trucks, at least the ones in the Nashville Tennessee area.
