Works well on my '40 pickup. You can likely find a dropped axle for your vehicle so that you might retain the original suspension. Not sure of width of rails on a 40 but if you want to go IFS checkout crown vic ifs swaps on google. the 2003-2006 ifs drops out with only 8 bolts and can be purchased for few hundred bucks. Looks to be an easy swap. Good luck
