That one also has one of those "Rare" accessory Factory Spare tire holders. A 450 series is actually a 3 ton. The military always under rates their vehicles. | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 719 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 719 | Get a little trailer and that would make a great hay hauler around here! I'd lovea truck like that, it sure sucks to live in BFE and be broke,... 1956 GMC 370 dump " 'Tater "1970 VW Volksrod "the Black Bomber" 2007 Chevy Avalanche 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, 2005 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things. But thats just MY opinion! :P

The guy says holding it is no problem which is important with the weather we are having and a tractor isn't a whole lot heavier then a 3/4 ton pickup and it would haul on a good car hauler. | | | | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 940 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 940 | Interesting truck. I've never seen the combination of a Chevy/GMC truck that old and that "small" with Air Brakes. Wish it had more pictures.

I don't think Chev offered straight air until the task force series. Straight air was a rare option in those days on a tractor because most trailers still had vacuum brakes and it was considered dangerous to have better brakes on the tractor than the trailer. And it wasn't until the mid 50's that a lot of people realized that straight air is much easier to maintain then vacuum over hydraulic. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 | Chevrolet first offered full air in 1957 as an option for the 9000 and 10000 series trucks...
