Howdy Y'all from Alabama! I've always wanted a 64-66 truck, and thanks to craigslist, I got my chance. I got a 65 longbed with a later model 6 (integral head--yuck) hitched to a turbo 400 all for the low low price of $500. It runs and shifts like a top, and I drove it about 60 miles at night home! The down side is the usual rot, bondo everywhere, and super dangerous steering. I just got the steering column out and will be looking for one out of a 67-72 or a 70's van. I've got question that I haven't been able to find the answer to by searching this and other sites. The truck has disc brakes in the front, but it is still 6 lug. I know you can put a later front end under one, but everything I have found says they changed to 5 lug with the discs. The A arms have grease fittings in the bushings which leads me to believe that it could be no later than a 72. I guess it could be an aftermarket kit, but judging by the redneck engineering on the rest of the truck, I doubt it. Also, what about a steering box junkyard swap? what will work without much work (I want to stay manual)? Anyone got any ideas?

JDog, how YA"LL doing down there. I'm in S.C. and we say YA"LL up here to smile Just came through your fair state last month.

Welcome to the Stovebolt. Best guall dern place to be on the web.
Lots of infor, lots of nice people.

For the best answers to your questions it's always best to put them in the best forum for the best/most responses. Not everyone visits here in the welcome center. I'm not sure about your question but I gurantee someone here knows the answer. If you know someone who can get a discount at the parts house I'd suggest you may want to check into a re-manufactured box as the junk yards one may also require a rebuild?? Just a thought.

If ever up my way drop by and lets share a hot dog and Pepsi.
Good luck on your project and post us a pic when you can.

The guy I got it from was in a bind for dough. My wife and son say it's a POS, but I think it's cool!

We'll see how much a POS it is when they want something hauled. Welcome to stovebolt.

I think disk brakes were an option from 70 up, maybe even earlier. I had a 72 with disk 25 years ago.

I'll try to get pics posted, but photobucket and my super slow dial-up don't get along too well. But it was pretty neat to see all of those old chevys (and fords I guess) in such a far away land. As far as trends, they like little fenders over their front tires on their roadsters (maybe a law) and some unique colors and paint schemes.
