is there a auto transmision that would bolt directly 2 my 292, with little or no complicated modifications, ( can find at local junkyard)

Anything that bolts to a small block chevy will bolt to your 292.

A TH350 is a really good transmission, the only problem is that it does not have overdrive. You will also need to change the flywheel to a flex plate. There will be other things, like the shift linkage and a cooler on or in front of the radiator.

will that be a suitbale tranny for cruising around town, and maybe some longer trips??

It depends on what your rear end ratio is & tire diameter. I'm not sure what year you have but most of these old trucks are geared pretty low. A 350 trans. will not give you anymore highway speed then a manual trans. You might want to look at a 700R4 trans.

wrentchbender, i have a 63 C10 with a 292 in it, ill have too see about the gear ratio. Thanks for the comment
