Hello everyone. I found this place via Google this evening and it appears to be just what I'm looking for. I'm the girlfriend of the truck owner, not the actual owner, but I'm sure I'll have a hand in the project to some extent.

To come clean, I'm more of a Ford gal (sorry to use the 4-letter F word here!), but I do enjoy old vehicles of any make. I'm a member of another forum very similar to this one, and it's taught me a lot about my car, so I'm joining because this looks like a great information resource for my boyfriend's recent acquisition.

I recently went on a long road trip vacation. In the middle of it, I get this text message from the bf (Bruce) saying, "I bought a truck." And this morning a '58 Chevy shows up in the driveway! Cool stuff.

Bruce had been talking about a project truck for some time, but I wasn't sure if he'd go through with buying one or not. The plan seems to be restoration keeping stock appearance, but I'm not sure how far he wants to go with it or what updates he might want to make along the way. He's got some stock car projects lined up right now so it'll be awhile before he gets started on the truck, but once he does I'm sure there will be plenty of research to do. I'm thinking about picking up a copy of this "How to Restore your Chevrolet Pickup" book for him. It sounds pretty good.

There are a few photos of the truck in the driveway & garage from today - link in my sig. It's in rough shape and some pieces are missing (notably the rear & side window glass), but the body is pretty straight, some of the missing stuff did come with it, and it runs, so that's a plus. I'm not familiar with these trucks at all - and I've never heard the term Stovebolt until today - so forgive my ignorance if I have no idea what you're talking about sometimes lol. Any questions about the truck, I'll try to find out the answers.

Hi and welcome from Scotland.
Bruce's new toy doesn't look too bad,you should see what some of the folks here have started with.
The 58 fleetsides are my favourite TF series trucks.
Could have something to do with my friend Billy's truck

As far as your F*rd tendencies go,we'll just have to 'indoctrinate' you into the way of the Chevy!

Actually you're one step closer already...you're here! wink

Welcome to Stovebolt. Don't worry about having more than one love of trucks around here. You can always go to the Greasy Spoon and talk about anything you want. I even have a 1951 Willys that we are restoring and they are all differnt but all alike. Love your BF's truck. He gets as dirty as my husband and me. I wear a apron and it helps keep me cleaner. LOL Probably the back window will be hard to get but you will find one somewhere. Good luck!

Hello and Welcome to the Stovebolt Page!

It's always good to find out about another 'Bolter from Wisconsin!

I'm sure you will find a lot of information (and a few opinions) here!

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah I guess it is in good shape considering its age and the tendency of everything to rust away here. I'm not sure where the truck came from originally, I think the previous owner had it for about 20 years, so hopefully we can find out a little more about its past. It's fun looking at finished trucks like your friend Billy's, looks pretty sharp.

We'll see about this indoctrination thing... I've been dating a Chevy guy for over 4 years and it hasn't happened yet wink

And thanks Joy, yeah I have a feeling I'll be doing more reading than posting here for awhile, until I have something to contribute. Bruce gets dirty on a pretty much daily basis in the garage lol. And yeah I'm wondering where on earth we'll find a new rear window for that thing. Lacking an original piece, we might have to dig around and see if there is an aftermarket version. I have no idea!

Thanks Randy, you posted while I was typing my reply. Cool that there are a bunch of us in WI. We're way up north on the shore of Lake Superior. Does this forum have a member map feature where people can share their general location and see how far they are from others?

Hello!

The best I can suggest is to go to the Syovebolt "Office" and click on the Stovebolt Locator. There was a map, but I can't remember where to find it, maybe someone out there can tell us both how to find it.

Hello EIBlue,

Where's "way up north" in WI? I live near Bruce, WI in Rusk Co. I've spent time along the lake shore in Washburn, Bayfield, Cornucopia, Herbster, Port Wing, Ashland, etc.

The side glass is the easy part, but it's a big back window cab.
It's the rear one that's the tricky one.

Blue - welcome to the garage, 58 fleetsides rock wink good score

re the back glass, check the various repro vendors in the links section, Jim Carter lists them [WI222, $245], but you should check at the auto glass places in your area, awhile back I saw them listed as available just like the windshield, and that'd save shipping .... there's always the parts wanted here as well, shouldn't be hard to find one

I like the locator page, nifty, thanks for the link. Thanks for the welcome AUWING. Achipmunk, yikes, I'm not going to speculate on a honeymoon ride! Hillbilly6977, we're in Ashland. I've only been to Bruce, WI once - I took Bruce's photo next to the "Bruce" sign at the city limits lol. And yup it's the big rear window that could be tough to find (but it sounds like it won't be as hard as I thought). Thanks for the info. squeeze. Somehow the window topic came up in conversation tonight and Bruce said he's seen the window listed in a parts magazine, and he may even be scheming to get a parts truck already haha. We'll see.

Yer BF got a keeper truck (I love the twin-beamed rascals)! Thanks for posting the pics.
