I have a 50' Sport Coupe with the glide which has the upgraded 235 splasher. Anyways, I'm in the process of collecting parts for a 62'261 swap. My main question is which cylinder head to go with? Because the 50' head had the big intake valve should I consider it, or since I also have a "848" head should I use it? The "848" has the smaller combustion chamber but would that outweigh the value of the 50' powerglide head? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 | Your PG head has 15 head bolts and won't fit but you can machine the 848 head to accept the powerglide intake valves which is common in performance builds. Did you ever determine what, if any, is the benefit for using the early Powergide intake valves? There must have been a reason why Chevrolet went back to 1-7/8" intake valves for the Corvette Six and all of the later 235 and 261 engines. It seems that only with a low-lift cam would there be much of an advantage for the larger valves with the siamesed-port flow path to the valves.
